PLANTAE- the taxonomic kingdom comprising all living and extinct plants
My Joyous Kale
In the Spring of 2018, I planted quite a bit of kale, that eventually overtook a large part of my garden. It was tall and bursting forth —reaching for the sun. I could hardly get my husband to eat any, but was able to share some with neighbors. I started painting it in the fall, when some of the leaves started to change colors and I was wanting to try out different mediums.

Trees
It is hard not to notice trees when painting landscapes. There are a few special trees or locations that inspired me to just focus on select trees.
A couple of years ago we had to fell a large maple in our yard that was thought to be a hazard tree. It was a painful decision, but I tried to capture what I loved best about that majestic 100 year old tree: the light coming through on a sunny day when the leaves were just starting to change color. I must say, I do not miss raking all the leaves and we have planted a wonderful sun garden in its place.
Special locations: the Oregon coast and fall colors in the Pacific Northwest.
